The brand Equiano is named after the Nigerian writer and Olaudah Equiano, who was a prominent abolitionist, traveler, and one of the first freedom fighters for slaves in Africa. He played a key role in the movement for the abolition of the death penalty.

By trading rum, Olaudah bought his freedom from slavery and was able to dedicate himself to the movement for the liberation of slaves. That’s why Equiano Rum Co donates 5% of profits to support equality.

Equiano produces premium Caribbean-African blended rums. They are made from a blend of rums sourced from the Gray's distillery on the African island of Mauritius and Foursquare on the island of Barbados.
