The most famous is Edradour, perhaps because it is the smallest distillery in Scotland, producing only 90,000 liters annually and employing just three people. Edradour Distillery (pronounced "edradauer") was founded in 1825 in the hills of Pitlochry and still maintains the tradition of being almost exclusively a craft distillery. At the heart of the series is a ten-year-old single malt whisky with a charm unusual for the Highlands.

In 1982, Edradour Distillery was acquired by the beverage giant, Pernod Ricard. Over the following years, three-quarters of the distillery's production was used to create blended whiskies, including notable names like "House of Lords" or the promisingly named "King’s Ransom." It wasn't until 2002, when the distillery was acquired by Signatory, that Edradour began to focus almost exclusively on producing single malt whiskies. Edradour, known for experimenting with various unusual types of wood during the final maturation phase, has created a diverse range of single malt whiskies that have matured in quite interesting casks, including "Chardonnay Finish," "Côte de Provence," and the unique "Tokaji Wood Finish."

Signatory moved their base to Edradour right after building a bottling plant and warehouse there. In 2003, Edradour experimented with a peated single malt whisky called "Ballechin" with a peat content of 50 ppm, which was launched in 2006. Each year, a new bottle of Ballechin whisky is released, with the final part of maturation taking place in a cask made from different wood, until it fully matures after ten years.
