Clés des Ducs VS
Armagnac Clés des Ducs VS (40% ABV) is the introductory staple of the prestigious series from the Clés des Ducs family from the Bas-Armagnac region. This young armagnac embodies purity and fruity freshness, making it ideal for everyday sipping or mixing into cocktails. The brand evokes its symbolism of “The Keys of the Princes,” reflecting the historical roots of the area where traditional “eaux-de-vie” are produced with an emphasis on craftsmanship and quality.
The distillate is primarily made from Ugni Blanc grapes from vineyards around the villages of Panjas, Maupas, and Estang, grown in sandy soils typical of Bas-Armagnac. Both copper column and traditional distillation methods are used, with the VS (Very Special) variant aging in Limousin oak barrels for a minimum of 2 years – exactly the limit required by the category. The barrels are lightly toasted to enhance the fruity and floral notes of the distillate.
Clés des Ducs VS captivates with its light amber color and pleasantly dry yet complex flavor. The aroma combines notes of dried fruits, raisins, plums, tobacco, cocoa, floral, and honey accents. On the palate, it reveals a fresh fruity taste – juicy raisins, pear, dried fruits – complemented by a subtle spicy and cocoa background, finishing with a delicately dry tannic conclusion.
The family heritage of Clés des Ducs runs deep into the traditions of Bas-Armagnac, with the craft of distillation being practiced in the region since the 15th century. The company maintains a slow distillation process and gentle aging to preserve the authentic fruity and floral characteristics. The result is a young yet expressive armagnac – perfect for everyday enjoyment or as a quality gift.
