Bowmore is one of the oldest and most respected distilleries in Scotland. Its history dates back to the second half of the 18th century, when the distillery was established on the Islay island, with the first official record dating from 1779. Bowmore is regarded as the first licensed distillery on Islay and continues to play a key role in the history of Scotch single malt whisky.

The distillery is located on the shores of Lochindaal, a sea loch flowing into the wild Atlantic Ocean. This unique coastal environment has a significant influence on the character of Bowmore whisky, which is known for its balanced combination of peat smoke, fruit notes, and subtle maritime salinity.

Traditional production and unique maturation

Bowmore boasts one of the greatest rarities in the world of whisky – the oldest whisky maturation warehouse in the world, known as No. 1 Vaults. This historic warehouse, located deep below sea level, has been used for whisky maturation for more than 240 years. Its stable temperature and humidity create ideal conditions for slow and balanced ageing.
