Blackwell Rum is a dark rum from Jamaica that combines deep family roots and a rich rum tradition with modern craftsmanship.
It was created by Chris Blackwell, the legendary founder of Island Records, who revived an old family recipe from the days when his ancestors owned the famous Appleton Estate and J. Wray & Nephew distilleries in 2008. He collaborated with renowned master blender Joy Spence from Appleton Estate, who gave it its distinctive Jamaican identity.
The rum is produced in the classic Jamaican way – by fermenting molasses from local sugar cane and then distilling it in copper pot stills and column stills. This process ensures the rum's depth, structure and complexity, as well as its smoothness and balance.
Maturation takes place in American white oak barrels, mainly ex-bourbon, for approximately two years in tropical conditions, which enhances its characteristic wood and spice notes.
The aroma is dominated by a rich mix of caramel, vanilla, toasted marshmallow, tropical fruits such as pineapple and banana, and hints of tobacco and orange peel.
The rum is very pleasant on the palate, with a sweet attack of caramel and chocolate, followed by subtle spicy notes of cinnamon, black pepper and oak. There are also layers of banana bread, honey and dried fruit. The finish is medium-long, warm, with lingering sweetness, spice and subtle hints of tobacco and citrus.
Blackwell Rum is proof that even modern rum can draw on history while offering something timeless. Its rich flavor makes it ideal for slow sipping or in quality cocktails.
