In many languages and cultures, Zaya is named for a "triumphant woman." However, the Zaya Gran Reserva rum recipe remains covered with a veil of mystery. All that is known is that it consists of a precise mixture of 12 rare rums from Trinidad and Tobago so that it faithfully follows in the footsteps of the former rum that this brand once produced in Guatemala.
Each of the rums used is made from virgin sugar cane from the islands and personally selected by master blender Carl Homer. Fermented cane juice is distilled twice in copper cauldrons and then matured in medium-tanned white oak barrels after whiskey and bourbon for 16 years. The consistent production process has brought Zaya Gran Reserva rum a memorable taste and a number of well-deserved awards.
