Wagemut is a German brand of premium rums and other spirits founded by Nicolas Kröger. It operates as an independent bottler, meaning that instead of distilling its own rum, it selects high-quality rums from different producers and develops them according to its own philosophy. Cask selection, additional maturation and experimentation with different types of wood and finishes play an important role. The result is a range of distinctive rums with bold character that often differ significantly from the standard releases of individual distilleries.

Limited editions and distinctive cask finishes

Wagemut is known for its focus on small batches, unusual casks and limited editions. The brand regularly works with Caribbean rums, which may undergo further maturation or be combined with selected casks previously used for bourbon, sherry, wine or other beverages. Since 2021, Wagemut has also released an annual Special Edition, with each bottling created as a unique one-off release in a limited number of bottles. This approach especially appeals to rum enthusiasts looking for unconventional, cask-driven and collectible editions.

Wagemut The Origin

A perfect example of this philosophy is Wagemut The Origin – a limited 10-year-old Single Blended Rum from the renowned Foursquare Distillery in Barbados. The rum matured in ex-bourbon casks directly in Barbados and was bottled at its natural cask strength of 64.1%. This one-off release was created in collaboration between Wagemut and RumX and contains no added sugar, colouring or filtration. The Origin shows a purer and more authentic side of Wagemut – without an additional PX sherry finish and with a clear focus on the original character of Barbadian rum.
