Moët & Chandon was founded in 1743 by French wine merchant Claude Moët in Épernay, located in the heart of the Champagne region of France. Claude Moët, coming from a family with a long tradition in the wine trade, quickly recognized the potential of sparkling wines from this region.

Since its inception, Moët & Chandon has focused on exporting its champagne beyond France. Claude Moët built a reputation among European aristocracy, leading to his champagne becoming a favorite at courts across Europe, including the court of French King Louis XV.

In 1792, the leadership of the company was taken over by Claude Moët's grandson, Jean-Rémy Moët. Jean-Rémy was responsible for the extensive expansion of the brand and significantly contributed to its global success. He made friends among prominent figures of the time, such as Napoleon Bonaparte, ensuring that Moët & Chandon became iconic champagne not only for royal families but also for the new powers in Europe.

In 1832, Jean-Rémy Moët passed the leadership of the company to his son Victor Moët and his son-in-law Pierre-Gabriel Chandon de Briailles. This led to the official renaming of the company to Moët & Chandon.

Moët & Chandon became a pioneer in champagne production. One of its most significant achievements was the creation of "Brut Impérial" in 1869, which became the foundation for modern dry champagne, now the best-selling type of champagne in the world.

The brand also regularly introduced new technologies and methods in the production process, ensuring consistent quality and reputation for its products.

Moët & Chandon has built an image associated with luxury, celebrations, and prestige. It is a popular champagne at international events such as film festivals, major sporting events, and social gatherings.

In 1971, Moët & Chandon merged with another luxury brand, Hennessy, and a year later with the fashion house Louis Vuitton, creating the conglomerate LVMH (Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton), which is now one of the largest luxury goods companies in the world.

Moët & Chandon remains a market leader in champagne and produces millions of bottles annually, owning the largest vineyards in the Champagne region.
