After Brandy XO from the former Malokarpatské winery, which was established in the 1980s, Matyšák Brandy XO is the first product of this designation in Slovakia. The existence of this brandy is all the more valuable as it was created as an experiment.
5 years - the time required for maturation seemed infinitely long at that time. However, during the following years, P. Matyšák filled several barrels from the new vintage. In 2002, the first brandy was matured, and he wanted to put it on sale. But before the entire preparation was completed, starting from legislation to bottling, it was already 2003, and the 1998 vintage was ready, so that one eventually went on sale. “For this reason, I decided to leave the first brandy in the barrels and monitor its further development in the following years. The last 6 of the 17 years matured in French limousine barrels, which are also used for producing Rémy Martin cognac,” states Peter Matyšák.
And this is the birth of a brandy that can rightfully boast the designation XO (according to legislation, Brandy XO, or Extra Old, must mature in an oak barrel for at least 8 years).
