Jack Daniel’s x McLaren Halo MK1 is not just another bottle in racing colors. It is an exceptional Tennessee whiskey created as the pinnacle of the long-standing collaboration between Jack Daniel’s and McLaren Racing. The distillery itself describes it as its most premium and limited global release in history.
The whiskey is based on the characteristic recipe of Jack Daniel’s with 80% corn, 8% rye, and 12% malted barley. After distillation in Lynchburg, it underwent the traditional charcoal mellowing process – a slow filtration through approximately three meters of sugar maple charcoal.
Halo MK1 was then aged in new American white oak barrels. The staves used to make these barrels were exposed to the elements for an exceptionally long time before the barrels were assembled. The longer natural aging of the wood helps to soften the tannins and gives the whiskey a richer color, more pronounced aroma, and fuller flavor.
The whiskey was bottled with an intense alcohol strength of 58.7%. The value refers to Bruce McLaren and the number 58, which was carried by his first racing vehicle, the Austin 7 Ulster. The result is a concentrated yet balanced Tennessee whiskey with notes of sweet maple, fruit, caramel, chocolate, spice, and toasted oak.
Equally exceptional is the collectible packaging. Its design interprets the characteristic shape of the Halo safety device used in Formula 1 cars. The combination of metal elements, a carbon-fiber-like surface, micro-suede, and the typical papaya-orange color of McLaren creates an impressive design object, at the center of which is a one-liter bottle with a hand-finished stopper and distinctive emblems.
