This port wine, Graham's The Tawny Mature Reserve, is produced by the renowned house of W. & J. Graham's, founded in 1820 in the Douro Valley in Portugal.
"The Tawny" is the result of a careful selection of wines that have matured for several years in oak barrels at Graham's in Vila Nova de Gaia, at the mouth of the Douro River. The reserve character means that the wine is prepared from blended vintages with a higher average age, giving it elegance and a more complex expression than the classic Fine Tawny.
The aroma is dominated by notes of dried fruit, figs, plums and raisins, complemented by subtle nutty and caramel nuances that come from aging in oak barrels. On the palate, the wine is balanced, smooth and velvety, with flavors of roasted almonds, caramel and red fruit, while retaining the delicate sweetness typical of the Tawny style. The finish is long, warm and complex, with drier nutty accents that blend beautifully with the fruitiness.
Best enjoyed slightly chilled (12 – 14 °C), which brings out its elegance and freshness. It is ideal as a digestif, and goes well with desserts with dried fruit, nuts, caramel cream, or mild cheese. Thanks to its complexity, it is also excellent on its own, during a long evening get-together.
