Graham's 40 Year Old Tawny Port is made from traditional recipes handed down through generations – master blender Charles Symington uses wines set aside by his ancestors, which have matured for years in oak barrels.
Maturation takes place in the Douro Valley, where gradual oxidation and evaporation (‘angels' share’) allow the wines to develop incredibly refined aromas and structure. The ageing strategy and detailed control over the blend create a connection between the aesthetics of age and the preservation of fruit power.
The wine is golden amber in colour with a subtle greenish tinge at the rim – a symbol of maturity and quality. The aroma is exceptionally complex: intense dried fruit (raisins, figs), intoxicating caramel sweetness, chocolate and nutty notes with hints of toffee and vanilla.
The taste is layered and rich – fruit, roasted nuts, honey caramel and dark chocolate lead to a long, harmonious finish.
Recommended serving temperature: slightly chilled (12 – 16°C) in suitable glasses (port or white wine glasses) – excellent as a dessert on its own or paired with dark chocolate, nut desserts or blue cheeses. Once opened, it remains stable and consistent for up to 4 – 6 weeks.
Graham's 40 Tawny Port is a real treasure – it exudes depth of time, maturity and craftsmanship. It is an authentic example of how port can age for decades while retaining its elegance, complexity and enjoyment with every sip.
