GlenDronach

Glendronach Distillery is located by the Dronach Burn in the Deveron area. It was founded in 1826 by a syndicate headed by James Allardes. Thanks to the fifth Duke of Gordon, the burning in the Highlands was legalized in the early 19th century. It is said that it was the duke who supported the construction of Glendronach. In 1852, the distillery passed into the hands of Walter Scott of Teaninich. After his death, the distillery was acquired by a group of people from the town of Leith.

In 1920, Glendronach was bought by William Grant's son, Charles Grant, for £ 9,000. Production in the distillery started again after a break of several months. In the 1960s, the distillery was acquired by William Teacher and Sons, which subsequently completed two new distilleries. Today, this distillery has a capacity of 1.3 million liters per year. It was taken over by Allied in 1976 and closed in 1996. Production resumed in 2002, and three years after the distillery was taken over by Allied, Chivas Brothers became the new owner.

In 2005, the distillery was closed for a few years due to the transition from coal fuel to steam, which was to supply heat to distilleries. This change is likely to have a significant effect on the properties of their single malt whiskey. When the coal fire directly heats the distilleries, the heat distribution is somewhat uneven, resulting in hot spots. Thanks to these hot spots, Scotch whiskey is richer, with a hint of caramel. The steam heats the distilleries indirectly and the heat is distributed evenly, with no caramel undertones. Gliskronach whiskey, which has long been associated with Teachers, has been used in a variety of blended whiskeys since the late 19th century. Since the acquisition of the distillery by Chivas Brothers, it has been part of Chivas Regal. In 2008, Glendrons were bought by BenRiach owners for £ 15 million. BenRiach are its owners to this day.
