Glen Elgin Distillery is located in Speyside. It was built in 1890. The distillery has a huge capacity for malting barley. The local 36 malting tanks will hold 400 tonnes of barley mixture - more than the tanks of the other three Elgin distilleries can hold together.
Another interesting feature is the use of the old technology of "screw baths for cooling steam during distillation, which, unlike modern condensers, adds depth and richness to the resulting beverage. The bonus of this non-traditional technology is the breeding of freshwater shrimp, which thrives here very well in vats.
