Casco Viejo

Casco Viejo is a family-owned tequila produced by the renowned Camarena family in the high agave region of Arandas, in the Los Altos region of Jalisco, Mexico. Their distillery, known as Gran Dinastía (formerly Casa Camarena), dates back to the 1830s and is now run by matriarch Elena Camarena.

The brand emphasizes vertically integrated production - growing blue agave in its own fields, hand harvesting, and traditional production processes.

The agaves from Los Altos, grown at an altitude of approximately 2,100 meters above sea level in highly mineralized red soil, are slowly cooked in hand-built brick ovens. They then undergo fermentation in open steel vats for 80 – 90 hours using traditional yeast, followed by double distillation in copper-lined stills.

The Reposado version is aged for two to three months in American oak barrels, which gently complement the floral and fruity notes of the agave.

In addition to quality, Casco Viejo is also committed to sustainability – it is one of the largest producers, managing more than 1,500 hectares and 3 million agave plants, and has implemented ZERO-D technology for the ecological recycling of tequila fermentation waste. This system reduces pollutants in wastewater to almost zero and has been recognized by the Mexican government.

Casco Viejo combines respect for traditional craftsmanship – from the jimadores to the distillation process – with a focus on modern environmental responsibility. The result is a tequila that represents the authentic character of Los Altos – fresh, vegetal, with hints of tropical fruit and a subtle oak finish – while remaining accessible and versatile for both everyday and festive occasions.
