Casco Viejo is a family tequila produced by the renowned Camarena family in the high agave region of Arandas, Los Altos in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. Their distillery, known as Gran Dinastía (formerly Casa Camarena), has roots dating back to the 1830s and is currently led by the matriarchal figure Elena Camarena.

The brand emphasizes vertically integrated production – growing blue agave on their own fields, hand harvesting, and traditional production processes.

The agaves from Los Altos, grown at an altitude of approximately 2,100 m above sea level in highly mineral-rich red soil, are slowly cooked in hand-built brick ovens. They then undergo fermentation in open steel tanks for 80 – 90 hours using traditional yeasts, followed by double distillation in copper-steel stills.

The Reposado version ages for two to three months in American oak barrels, which gently complement the floral and fruity notes of the agave.

In addition to quality, Casco Viejo also focuses on sustainability – it is one of the largest producers, managing over 1,500 ha and 3 million agave plants, and has implemented ZERO-D technology for the ecological recycling of tequila fermentation waste. This system reduces pollutants in the discharged water to nearly zero and has been recognized by the Mexican government.

Casco Viejo combines respect for traditional craftsmanship – from jimadores to distillation – with a focus on modern ecological responsibility. The result is a tequila that represents the authentic character of Los Altos – fresh, vegetal, with hints of tropical fruit and a smooth oak finish, while remaining accessible and versatile for both everyday and festive occasions.
