Rum Production Tradition on the Island of Mauritius
Rum production on the island of Mauritius began as early as the 19th century, when around forty distilleries operated on the island. Today, fewer than ten remain, but the craft and passion for sugarcane endure. The cultivation of cane was introduced by the Dutch – originally for the production of arak – and since then, the tradition of processing has been passed down from generation to generation.
The Birth of the Blue Mauritius Brand
The brand's history dates back to 2012, when the first rum Blue Mauritius Gold was created. It is made from the highest quality distillate from sugarcane grown right in Mauritius, where the molasses matures for 36 hours before distillation. The distillate with an alcohol content of 95% is then diluted to 60% and blended before being stored in port wine tanks, which impart natural sweetness and soften the sharp notes of young alcohol.
Attention to Every Detail
The entire process takes less than a year, with the rum's color stabilized and all flavors remaining maximally authentic. Maceration and blending are done in small batches, without homogenization or chemical interventions – to preserve the rum's natural character and purity. Over time, fine sediments may appear, which is a sign of quality and the use of exclusively natural ingredients.
Handcrafted Processing and Premium Packaging
After aging, the rum is bottled in heavy French bottles and sealed with a wooden cork with a transparent closure. A leather strap is attached to the neck of each bottle, absorbing small droplets and keeping the aroma fresh. Each piece undergoes precise manual cleaning and is packaged in a sturdy gift box – proof that every step of production is overseen by masters.
Most Famous Blue Mauritius Rums
The brand's most famous product is Blue Mauritius Gold – an elegant dark rum with a velvety texture and notes of tropical fruit, chocolate, and caramel.
