The tradition of rum-making on the island of Mauritius
Rum production on Mauritius dates back to the 19th century, when around forty distilleries operated on the island. Today, fewer than ten remain, but the craftsmanship and passion for sugarcane cultivation live on. The Dutch first introduced sugarcane – originally to produce arrack – and since then, the art of distillation has been passed down through generations.
The origin of Blue Mauritius
The story of the brand began in 2012 with the creation of the first Blue Mauritius Gold rum. It is made from the finest sugarcane spirit distilled on the island of Mauritius. Before distillation, the molasses rests for 36 hours, after which the 95% white spirit is reduced to 60% and blended before being aged in port wine casks, which lend it a natural sweetness and smooth out the sharpness of young alcohol.
Crafted with care
The entire process takes less than one year, with colour and flavour carefully stabilized to preserve authenticity. Maceration and blending are done in small batches, without homogenization or chemical additives – ensuring the rum remains as pure and natural as possible. Any fine sediment that may appear over time is a hallmark of quality and artisanal production.
Handcrafted excellence and premium presentation
After ageing, the rum is bottled in heavy French glass and sealed with a wooden stopper and transparent cap. Each bottle is finished with a leather strap around the neck, which absorbs any drops and preserves the aroma. Every unit is hand-cleaned and packed in a robust gift box – proof that every step of production receives exceptional care.
Signature Blue Mauritius rums
The brand’s most famous product is Blue Mauritius Gold – an elegant dark rum with a velvety texture and notes of tropical fruit, chocolate, and caramel.
