A.H. Riise – Danish Heritage and Caribbean Rum

The history of A.H. Riise rums begins in 1838 when a young pharmacist Albert Heinrich Riise decided to leave for the newly colonized Danish island St. Thomas. There, he opened his first pharmacy, where he sold his own remedies and experimented with blending medicinal elixirs and distillates. It was here that the first recipes were created, which later became the foundation of the legendary A.H. Riise rum.

From Pharmacy to Rum Legend

Albert Riise had an exceptional sense of quality and became a pioneer in the distillation of rum and bitters – originally used as medicines. Thanks to his business talent, he began exporting his products to many countries. In addition to his craft, he was also involved in social life – he was the chairman of the colonial council, a member of the church committee, and the director of the St. Thomas bank.

After his death in 1882, his son Valdemar Riise continued the tradition, further developing the brand and its reputation. Later, after his health deteriorated, Valdemar sold the company along with the rights to produce the famous Riise Bay Rum to pharmacist O.V. Poulsen in 1913.

Today, the A.H. Riise brand combines Danish tradition with Caribbean roots. Its rums are known for their depth, smoothness, and rich aroma with notes of tropical fruits, caramel, and vanilla.
