The founder of the brand - Tito's Vodka - Tito Beveridge was not always known as "the vodka guy." He was born and raised in San Antonio, studied for a year at Vanderbilt, and then returned to Texas to UT (University of Texas at Austin), where he graduated with a degree in geology and geophysics. After college, he started a career in the oil and gas business. Eventually, he "got tired of chasing money" and decided to move to Austin.

In Austin, Tito began to focus on groundwater geology and then thought he would try his hand at the mortgage business. At that time, in 92 or 93, he started making flavored vodka as gifts for friends. One evening at a party, a stranger approached him and said, "Hey, you're the vodka guy." And he replied, "No, actually, I'm the mortgage guy." But that really made Tito think...

When mortgage rates went up a few points, he started going to liquor stores and asking owners and managers if they would buy his flavored vodkas. Everyone turned him down saying, "No, go look at all that dust on those bottles!" However, Tito was told that if he could make vodka that was smooth enough to drink straight, then he might have something. So he decided and really started making it!

Tito's Handmade Vodka is the original American craft vodka. In 1995, Bert "Tito" Beveridge obtained the first legal distillation permit in Texas and created Tito's Handmade Vodka. Our corn-based vodka is distilled in small batches using traditional pot stills and is naturally gluten-free. Tito's Handmade Vodka is distilled and bottled by Fifth Generation Inc. in Austin, Texas, on the same land where this whole business started.
