Suau brandy is a prestigious brand with a rich history that dates back to the first half of the 19th century. Mallorcan entrepreneur Juan Suau y Bennassar founded the distillery during his travels between Mallorca and Cuba, where he began producing his famous products. In 1851, he settled in Mallorca, where he moved his business and started importing the finest raw materials from Cuba for rum and anise production. Suau products became popular not only on the island but also on the American continent, where they were favored by notable figures like Pancho Villa.

Bodegas Suau distillery specialized in producing brandy, rum, and anise, with their products adorning the shelves of old taverns in America. However, after generational changes, contacts with America were lost, and the business was limited to the islands. During the Spanish Civil War, the business faced tough times as barrels of distillates got stuck in Barcelona and never made it to Mallorca. Federico Suau, the heir to the business, tried to save the company by starting to produce perfumes and later made a deal with the Mora family, which helped restore the distillery.

In 1989, the company came under the leadership of the Barceló family, which helped restart production and expand the market. Suau products became popular not only among older customers but also among younger generations thanks to new products and a modernization of the brand image. Today, Suau products are sold in 25 countries including China, Germany, and the United States. Suau brandy, the only brandy produced in Mallorca, is so popular that in local taverns, you don't order brandy, you simply ask for "Suau."
