San Lino is a Cuban rum with a long and interesting story that dates back to the 19th century. Its origins are linked to Ingenio San Lino, a sugar mill and distillery established in 1862 in the province of Cienfuegos, Cuba. It was founded by José Ramón de Montalvo y Rodríguez and Lino Montalvo y Rodríguez, and shortly after its establishment, in 1866, a still was installed, allowing the start of rum and aguardiente production.

San Lino quickly became one of the significant distilleries of its time – it was technologically advanced, utilizing what is known as bagazo verde as fuel and introducing modern sugar processing methods such as vacuum pans and multi-stage evaporation in the 1880s. The rum from this distillery became known for its smooth yet distinctive character.

The tradition of production gradually moved to the facility Bodegas Jagua in Cienfuegos, where San Lino rum was produced and blended until 1971, when the facility suffered a major fire. The barrels and stocks were subsequently moved in 1972 to Ronera Central, ensuring the continuation of the Cuban rum tradition under the name San Lino.

Today, the San Lino Ron de Cuba brand refers to these historical roots. It is made from molasses from local sugarcane, distilled slowly in column stills and aged in bourbon barrels. The most famous product is San Lino Carta Oro Extra Añejo, an amber rum with golden reflections that offers aromas of vanilla, spices, dried fruits, and wood. The taste is complex – honey, vanilla, molasses, tropical fruits, and subtle notes of tobacco. In addition, the brand also offers San Lino Carta Blanca, a white rum with a fresh, fruity aroma and light taste, ideal for mixed drinks.

San Lino is thus a rum that combines the rich historical heritage of 19th-century Cuban distilling with modern rum-making traditions. Each bottle tells the story of the Montalvo family, who were at the brand's inception, the innovations in Cienfuegos, and the resilience against challenges, such as the fire in the 70s. It is a rum that embodies the soul of Cuba – craftsmanship, tradition, and passion.
