Ron Millonario

In 1904, the Hacienda Agrícola de Chiclayo was founded in northern Peru in Chiclayo, a small settlement between the sea and the mountains, known as the "City of Friendship". Here a group of farmers came together to trade their sugar and to this end built a small refinery at great personal sacrifice.

In 1922, the Piera de Castillo family of Peruvian landowners, headed by Don Rolando, bought the hacienda, the refinery and a large sugar cane plantation from the Gutiérrez family.
Although raw materials were plentiful, the technology was rudimentary. The lack of technical know-how meant that the sugar cane and its full potential could not be fully exploited. The workforce, drawn from the local population around the hacienda, was also inadequately trained.
In 1933, Don Rolando sent his eldest son Augusto to study chemical engineering at Cambridge University.

Already in the summer of 1938, a ship destined for Peru left London carrying rare cylindrical sugar mills and a Scottish column still for distillation. After many years of testing and distilling, 1950 was a memorable year for the young Augusto Piero de Castillo: Ron Millonario was officially born.

The rum was the fruit of hard work, but since few could afford to taste it, it acquired the name "por los millonarios" in recognition of this exclusive club of individuals who were wealthy enough to buy this spirit and enjoy its unique charm.
