Ron Millonario – Peruvian heritage and craftsmanship

The story of Ron Millonario dates back to 1904, when Hacienda Agrícola de Chiclayo was founded in northern Peru, in the small town of Chiclayo – known as the “City of Friendship”. A group of farmers built a sugar refinery there, laying the foundation for what would become a legend of Peruvian rum.

From sugarcane to rum legend

In 1922, the estate was purchased by Don Rolando Piera de Castillo and his family. Through dedication and innovation, production was gradually modernized. When his son Augusto graduated in chemical engineering from Cambridge, he brought new knowledge and equipment to Peru. From London came a Scottish still and new sugar mills – the foundation for the rum that was born in 1950.

A rum for the “millonarios”

The result was a masterpiece – Ron Millonario – with delicate sweetness, deep aroma, and a long, smooth finish. Because only a few could afford it, locals began to call it “por los millonarios” – for the millionaires. The name remains a symbol of elegance and distinction to this day.
