Ron Millonario – Peruvian Heritage and Craft Tradition

The story of Ron Millonario dates back to 1904, when the Hacienda Agrícola de Chiclayo was founded in northern Peru – in the small town of Chiclayo, known as the "City of Friendship." A group of farmers built a sugarcane processing refinery here, laying the foundation for the future legend of Peruvian rum.

From Sugarcane to Rum Legend

In 1922, the hacienda was purchased by don Rolando Piera de Castillo and his family. Thanks to his efforts and determination, production gradually modernized. When his son Augusto graduated with a degree in chemical engineering from Cambridge, he brought new knowledge and modern equipment to Peru. A Scottish distillation apparatus and new sugarcane mills were brought from London – these became the foundation of the quality of the rum that was born in 1950.

Rum for the “millonarios”

The result was a masterpiece with a delicate sweetness, deep aroma, and long finish – Ron Millonario. Because it was only affordable for a few, locals began to call it “por los millonarios” – for millionaires. This name has remained a symbol of excellence and elegance to this day.
