Rum has played a key role in history, serving as currency since 1790. Like tobacco, rum was a valuable commodity, easily stored and transported in barrels. Unlike sugar, rum gained value with age, inspiring the brand's name in honor of the old currency "colones" in El Salvador. Although this currency was replaced by the US dollar in 2001, old coins and banknotes remain collector's items. A significant moment was also in 2021 when El Salvador became the first country to recognize Bitcoin as legal tender.
