Riga Black Balsam is probably the oldest brand of bitter herbal liqueurs in the world, with a history of craftsmanship stretching back more than 260 years. The recipe was developed more than 260 years ago, and although the ingredients are no secret, only two people in the world - the master distiller and his apprentice - know all the details of the renowned single-bed maturation process.

The Riga Black Balsam recipe was said to have been lost in 1939, but was painstakingly restored from fragments by former employees after World War II. The recipe has remained unchanged since then.

Riga Black Balsam is made from a variety of natural ingredients including herbs, flowers, roots and berries that are mixed and macerated in a pure alcohol base. This process creates a dark and rich liqueur with a complex flavor that includes notes of bitter herbs, sweet honey, dried fruit and subtle spices. The liqueur is then matured in oak barrels, which contributes to its structure and deep character.
