Opthimus rum is produced by Oliver & Oliver Internacional, a company whose history dates back to the 19th century and combines Cuban heritage with Dominican tradition. The founder of the family, Juanillo Oliver, was a soldier in the Spanish army who settled in Cuba after leaving the service in 1800. There he established a farm and later a distillery, where he began producing rum and other spirits, laying the foundations for a future rum empire.

However, after the Cuban Revolution, the entire production was nationalized and the family lost its property. The brand disappeared from public awareness for many decades until the family's descendants, led by Pedro Ramón Oliver, revived it in the Dominican Republic. They combined Cuban know-how with high-quality local ingredients and the ideal Caribbean climate for rum aging. The result is the craft brand Oliver & Oliver, which builds on traditional production methods with a modern emphasis on quality and detail.

Today, Oliver & Oliver is best known for its Solera method, exceptionally long aging, and carefully blended rum. It produces several rum lines, such as Opthimus, Presidente, Ron Quorhum, and Exquisito, many of which are limited editions and bottled by hand.
