Single malt whisky Lowlands is any land-based distillery located south of the Highlands and north of England, in the Lowland region. The production process tends to use coal instead of peat. Triple distillation is also typical, where the spirit passes through three stills instead of the usual two, helping to define the typical light Lowlands style that is synonymous with the region.
