The Jose Cuervo tequila brand is a family legacy that has been passed down from generation to generation for over 250 years. It all began in 1758, when José Antonio de Cuervo y Valdés received land in the Mexican town of Tequila from the Spanish king to grow blue agave.

His son, José María Guadalupe de Cuervo, obtained an official license to produce and sell "vino de mezcal" in 1795, creating the world's first legally registered tequila – and thus the Jose Cuervo brand. Since then, the family has been continuously dedicated to producing this unique Mexican spirit according to the same recipe.

In 1812, the La Rojeña distillery was founded, which is still the oldest active distillery in Latin America. This is where all Jose Cuervo products are made – from growing their own agave to slow cooking, traditional pressing, and distillation in copper stills.

Thanks to its innovative approach, Jose Cuervo became the first producer in the 19th century to bottle tequila in glass bottles, greatly simplifying distribution and export. As early as 1852, the brand was exporting its products to California, opening the way to the international market. And in the 20th century, it was also at the birth of the iconic Margarita cocktail, with which it is still associated today.

The brand is still owned by the Beckmann family, direct descendants of the founders, who have been running the company for 11 generations. In 2017, the company was listed on the stock exchange as part of the Becle group, but the family spirit and quality control remained unchanged. Jose Cuervo is now the best-selling tequila in the world, available in more than 85 countries, and an icon of Mexican culture and craftsmanship. In addition to production, the brand is also involved in the development of the Tequila region, supporting education, sustainable agriculture and tourism, for example through the legendary Jose Cuervo Express train that connects Guadalajara with the city of Tequila.
