After the death of John Walker in 1857, the family business was taken over by his son Alexander Walker, who laid the foundations for the brand’s global success. In 1865, he created the first official blend called Walker’s Old Highland. Together with his son, Alexander Walker II, he later expanded production and exports, bringing Johnnie Walker to international markets.

Key visual elements of the brand include the square bottle and slanted label, introduced as early as the 19th century, which significantly improved the transport of whisky.
