Johann Nepomuk Kattus began producing sparkling wine in Vienna in 1890. His best vineyard on Nussberg in Vienna eventually gave its name to the brand “Hochriegl.” Viennese people from all social classes were excited about the new sparkling wine, which is why the producer Hochriegl was appointed supplier to the Imperial and Royal Court in 1898.
The First World War, the collapse of the monarchy, and the economic crisis brought tough times for the company. Luxury goods saw a revival only in the 1950s.
In 2009 the Hochriegl brand, the strongest brand of the Kattus company, was taken over by the sparkling wine producer Schlumberger, which further expanded it in the following years. Hochriegl has been part of Viennese culture from the very beginning.
The range of sparkling wines that Hochriegl provides to add sparkle to both big and small moments is as diverse as the cultural life in today’s Vienna - and beyond.
This brand is the most well-known producer of non-alcoholic versions of wines that we offer in our e-shop, specifically sparkling non-alcoholic wines.
