Glenfarclas, a whiskey distillery, draws water from clean springs on the ridge of the rugged Ben Rinnes, which is ubiquitous in the distance. The distillery is located in the swamps of Banffshire, just a mile from the River Spey. Glenfarclas has always been, and seems to remain, one of the Scottish distilleries that were only family-owned. That is why there is a strong degree of independence. Expert-appreciated Glenfarclas single-species whiskeys are aged almost exclusively in sherry barrels and matured in large warehouses on site - 52,000 barrels can be stored in 28 warehouses.

As one of the few Scottish producers who has never used exotic wood to mature, Glenfarclas retains its integrity. This distillery was founded in 1836 by Robert Hay. However, there is evidence that the distillery has been at this location for more than a century before. After Roert's death in 1865, John and George Grant bought the distillery for £ 511 and 19 shillings. They rented it to John Smith of Glenlivet. Instead, John Smith decided to run his newly established distillery, and in 1870 Glenfarclas again ran the Messrs Grant.

After World War II and the subsequent abolition of rations, the distillery's profits were good, and in 1960 Glenfarclas doubled the number of its boilers to four. In 1972, due to the increase in demand, local malting plants could not cope, so malting barley was bought. This distillery has a wide range of single-species whiskeys, especially after a series issued in 2007 by Family Casks, which was bottled between 1952 and 1994 each year. The distillery also has a visitor center, lavishly decorated with items from the ocean liner "Empress Australia". The center has a room named after it, "Room for a Boat".
