Château Le Rey is a historic winery in the Bordeaux region of France, specifically in the Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux appellation near the famous Saint-Émilion. The estate's roots date back to the reign of King Louis XIII, when the vineyards belonged to the Roque family, who had been involved in viticulture and barrel making for generations.

In 2016, the winery passed into the hands of three partners - Peter Kwok, Philipp Lambrecht, and Jean-Christophe Meyrou - who decided to continue the tradition while bringing a more modern approach to wine production.

Vineyard

The vineyards cover approximately 12 to 15 hectares on clay-limestone soils typical of the right bank of the Dordogne River. An interesting feature is the Burgundy-inspired production philosophy – individual plots are processed separately to emphasize the character of the terroir. The main varieties are Merlot and Cabernet Franc, which produce wines with distinctive minerality, elegance, and aging potential.

Varieties

The winery mainly produces two main cuvées – Les Argileuses and Les Rocheuses – which represent different types of soil in the vineyard. This approach allows wine lovers to discover the differences between individual terroirs and is part of a modern trend in French winemaking.
