Château Le Rey is a historic winery in the French region of Bordeaux, specifically in the Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux appellation near the famous Saint-Émilion. The estate's roots date back to the reign of King Louis XIII, when the vineyards belonged to the Roque family, who dedicated generations to viticulture and barrel-making.

In 2016, the winery came into the hands of a trio of partners – Peter Kwok, Philipp Lambrecht, and Jean-Christophe Meyrou – who decided to continue the tradition while also bringing a more modern approach to winemaking.

Vineyards

The vineyards span approximately 12 to 15 hectares of clay-limestone soils typical of the right bank of the Dordogne River. Notably, the production philosophy is inspired by Burgundy – individual plots are processed separately to highlight the character of the terroir. The main varieties are Merlot and Cabernet Franc, from which wines with distinct minerality, elegance, and aging potential are produced.

Varieties

The winery primarily produces two main cuvées – Les Argileuses and Les Rocheuses – which represent different soil types in the vineyard. This approach allows wine lovers to discover the differences between individual terroirs and is part of a modern trend in French winemaking.
