Château du Tariquet

The Tariquet vineyard was bought by Artaud and his son Jean in 1912. When the First World War began in 1914, the winery remained abandoned until 1940. When Jean and his wife and children Maïté, Christiane, Françoise and Yves returned to Tariquet in 1939, they began to rebuild the winery, which lasted until 1972 when Maïté, Christiane, Françoise, Yves and their father Jean founded the first company to sell Bas-Armagnac brandy. Since then, their technique has been refined and the Tariquet brandies have improved.

Since 1982, the company has also started to produce very high quality white wines. Today the company is run by Yves' sons, Armin and Rémy. The Château du Tariquet vineyard has become one of the largest sellers of brandy in France.

However, it is not only determination that has been behind the vineyard's success, but also its origins that have had the greatest influence on it. The Château du Tariquet vineyard is located in the historic territory of the former Gascony. This is a south-western region of France known for its sandy, acidic and, despite its high iron content, nutrient-poor soil.

The brand's rarity is the production of Armagnac from the Plant de Graisse grape variety. No other producer grows this variety. However, Château du Tariquet has found a way to work spectacularly with this oily and not very aromatic grape variety.
