Brunilde di Menzione

Brunilde di Menzione is an Italian wine brand belonging to the Schenk Italy group, which has made a name for itself mainly thanks to wines from the southern region of Puglia, specifically from the province of Manduria. It is here that the Primitivo variety has its most famous name – Primitivo di Manduria – and Brunilde di Menzione is one of the producers who represent this style at a high level.

The brand focuses mainly on the production of Primitivo di Manduria D.O.C., but its portfolio also includes other wines from southern Italy, such as Salice Salentino, Aglianico del Vulture, and Shiraz-Cabernet Sicilia. In all cases, the emphasis is on tradition, hand-picked grapes, and exploiting the potential of the hot, sunny soil of southern Italy.

Primitivo di Manduria Brunilde di Menzione itself is made from 100 % Primitivo grapes. The harvest is done by hand, and fermentation takes about 25 days at a controlled temperature of around 33 °C. Some of the wines are further aged in barrique barrels, especially the Riserva version, which gives them a richer, more complex character. The alcohol content is around 14-15 %, which is typical for this southern variety with high sugar content.

The flavor profile of these wines is intense and rich. The color is usually dark red with purple highlights. The aroma and taste are dominated by notes of ripe dark fruit - cherries, plums, berries - complemented by spicy accents and a subtle hint of wood. The wines are full-bodied, structured, with subtle tannins and a long finish. This makes them an excellent accompaniment to grilled or stewed meat, strong cheeses, or even dark chocolate. The recommended serving temperature is 16 – 18 °C, which allows all the flavors to come to the fore.
