Brunilde di Menzione is an Italian wine brand that belongs to the Schenk Italy group and has built its name primarily through wines from the southern region of Puglia, specifically from the province of Manduria. Here, the variety Primitivo has its most famous name – Primitivo di Manduria – and Brunilde di Menzione is among the producers who represent this style at a high level.

The brand focuses mainly on producing Primitivo di Manduria D.O.C., but the portfolio also includes other wines from southern Italy, such as Salice Salentino, Aglianico del Vulture, and Shiraz-Cabernet Sicilia. In all cases, emphasis is placed on tradition, hand-harvesting of grapes, and utilizing the potential of the hot, sunny soils of southern Italy.

The Primitivo di Manduria Brunilde di Menzione itself is made from 100% Primitivo grapes. Harvesting is done by hand, and fermentation lasts about 25 days at a controlled temperature of around 33 °C. Some of the wines age further in barrique barrels, especially in the Riserva version, which gives it a richer, more complex character. The alcohol content is around 14 – 15%, which is typical for this southern variety with high sugar content.

The flavor profile of these wines is intense and rich. The color is usually dark red with purple reflections. The aroma and taste are dominated by notes of ripe dark fruits – cherries, plums, berries – complemented by spicy accents and a subtle hint of wood. The wines are full-bodied, structured, with subtle tannins and a long finish. This makes them excellent companions for grilled or braised meats, strong cheeses, or even dark chocolate. The recommended serving temperature is 16–18 °C, which allows all flavor layers to shine.
