Its story began in 1827, when George Ballantine opened his first grocery shop in Edinburgh and soon started blending his own whisky. From family business to global brand

As his business prospered, George involved his sons, creating George Ballantine & Son Ltd. Their blends quickly reached international markets, earning a reputation for exceptional quality. After the company was sold in 1919, it was taken over by traders Barclay & McKinlay, who helped the brand grow globally.

Expansion and masterful blends

In 1937, the brand was acquired by Hiram Walker & Sons, who purchased the distilleries Glenburgie and Miltonduff – still the core of Ballantine’s blends today. A modern distillery in Dumbarton followed, allowing production to expand. Thanks to its commitment to consistent quality, Ballantine’s became a symbol of reliable, balanced blended Scotch whisky.

Today, Ballantine’s is one of the best-selling whiskies in Europe and enjoyed in over 160 countries. Its most famous edition is Ballantine’s Finest – a smooth, harmonious blend with notes of honey, vanilla, and spice.
