Prince de Polignac Cognac is named after one of the oldest French noble families, which includes Cardinal De Polignac (French ambassador to Poland and Rome in the 17th century), Countess Yolande de Polignac (personal friend of Marie Antoinette) and Prince Jules de Polignac, Minister of the Cabinet under Charles X.
